Info on Cavies
The
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small to medium dog and is in
the toy group. Even though they are smallish dogs they're the largest
breed of the toy group. "Cavies" (nickname) can come in a variety of
different colors. Mine happens to have Blenheim coloring. Some of the
colors that they can be are; Blenheim (rich chestnut on pearly white
background), Tricolor (black and white with tan markings on cheeks,
inside ears, resembling eyebrows, inside legs, and on the underside of
the tail), Black and Tan (black with tan markings), and Ruby (rich
reddish-brown all over.)
Cavaliers are great with kids and love to be played with but they can
also be very cuddly. Cavies are very loyal. They are very friendly
toward other dogs, pets, and strangers. If you are looking for a
watch dog I think you should look for a different breed of dog since
these dogs are so friendly.
History
As in its name, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a
spaniel that passed through many spaniel roots. These spaniels known as
"comforter spaniels" and served as lap and floor warmers! They also even
served the function of attracting fleas from their owners' babies!
The toy spaniels became very popular because they were great with all
members of the family. In the 1700s King Charles II was so impressed
with his toy spaniels that he was accused of ignoring matters of state
and just caring about his spaniels. The spaniels were so closely
associated with him that they became known as Cavalier King Charles
Spaniels.
