Early childhood (Pre-K-Kindergarten) Ages: 2.5 - 6 Years
There
are four main areas in the Early Childhood classroom:
Practical Life, Sensorial, Math and Language. Children
receive regular lessons and are expected to work in
each area, though there is great freedom of choice
among the myriad of enticing activities. All materials
available to the children help them develop a sense
of order, their ability to concentrate, their coordination,
and their independence. Materials in all curricular
areas are set up from left to right to help children
track for reading, and encourage the use of the small
muscles in the hands to strengthen fingers for holding
a pencil, and are presented in an age-appropriate format
in a way best suited to the individual child. All activities
are self-correcting, giving children immediate feedback
on their work.
Children are accepted into this program
as young as two-and-a-half if they are toilet trained.
Three- and five-mornings a week schedules are available
in addition to full-day programs. Children at this
level also have weekly art, computer, music, and Spanish
classes.
