Green Tip from Quinn
Here are some ways to have a litterless lunch.
1. After using a zippered plastic bag wash it out and reuse it.
2. Use reusable containers.
3. Use a reusable cloth instead of a paper napkin.
4. Use a thermos or something like that for drinks instead of juice boxes.
5. Use a reusable bag instead of a paper bag.
Fundraising News
Remember The Exchange on Market Street when you are contemplating dinner out. This is the restaurant that is sponsoring our Chili Cook-off on April 17, 2010.
The silent auction items have begun to roll in. In addition to beautiful Silpada jewelry earned through our fall fundraiser, we have some rounds of golf at Porky Oliver’s, restaurant gift cards (Walters, McGlynn’s, Michael’s to name a few), a car wash, fitness club memberships, and tickets to several cultural events. This is just a sampling and does not include the wonderful items our parents have brought in from their homes.
We will be raffling off a wheelbarrow of cheer again this year. If you have any “cheer” that was given to you that does not suit your fancy, consider donating it for our event.
Tickets are available in the office ($35 per person or $60 per couple). We will only be able to accommodate 120 people, so get your tickets early!
In lunch box mail today is a Food Lion MVP Card application. With so many Food Lions in the area now, it seems reasonable to think that some of you use Food Lion in addition to Super G for your food shopping needs. If you follow the directions to sign up for the card and link it to EWMS, this school will receive a portion of the $1,000,000 Food Lion will donate to schools this year. Our school code is 218685. Thank you for helping our school.
World Maths Day
Today is World Maths Day. Many of the students had a chance to challenge themselves on math facts at the same time children from Australia, Qatar, the UK, and France (to name a few), were also participating!
Students 5-years old and older have their own log-in and may continue to participate in World Maths Day through this evening: http://www.worldmathsday.com.
Parents’ Meeting
Be sure calendars are marked for the EWMS board-sponsored State of the School address and meeting at 7:00 PM on Monday, April 19.
Read Across America Day
Yesterday was Read Across America Day. To celebrate, and to recognize Dr. Seuss’ birthday, we wore wacky hats and spent large portions of our day focused on books. Some of our parents came in to read to us, and we even had an early morning visit from the Cat in the Hat!
Green Garden Club
The club will meet tomorrow, March 4, 2010 from 3:00 until 4:00 PM. Please plan to pick up your club members by 4:00 PM.
Conferences
Conferences are scheduled for this Friday, March 5 and next Monday, March 8, 2010. There are still spots in the extended day program if you will need care for your child on either day or just during your conference. See Laura for more information.
EWMS Café
The EWMS March Café will take place this coming Tuesday, March 9, 2010. As an added incentive, we will be offering hot chocolate to the children in the morning extended day program, so come in, have a cup of coffee or tea with other parents and some staff, and know that your children are with their friends enjoying a cup of something warm as well! The café runs from 7:30 to 9:00 AM. Extended Day is complimentary for folks who attend the café!
