Green Tip from Quinn
Summer is coming. You might not care about reading green tips on vacation, but when you go to the beach remember to pick up all the trash around you. It’s good to do: it keeps the beach clean and others might see you and follow in your footsteps.
In the summer it’s also good to hang your clothes up on the line instead of putting them in the dryer, unless it’s raining. It saves energy and it’s a lot easier to do in the hot sun.
End-of-Year Picnic
On Tuesday, June 8, all of the kids and teachers head to the Christina Landing Park on Seventh Street for a morning of play culminating in a picnic lunch. Parents and other interested family members are welcome to join us for all or part of the morning. The whole school will be eating lunch at about 11:30 AM, so if you would like to take your lunch break with us, plan to be at the park by then.
Art Collections
On Monday, June 7th, art bags should be collected from the art room by parents or other adults. They will be labeled with your children’s names and should be carried carefully as they may have clay, papier maché, or other vulnerable media within.
Pizza Lunch
The final pizza lunch will be tomorrow Thursday, June 3, 2010.
Alumni News Maurice Clark is in the A.I. duPont High School class of 2010 and will enter Morehouse College as a freshman in the fall. Josh Morris-Levenson received a silver on the National Language Exam, Spanish Level 5.
Field Day
On Friday, June 4, 2010 in the afternoon, the elementary kids will head to a local park for an EWMS-style Field Day. The group will rotate through a series of non-competitive outdoor games and activities, this being another end-of-year bonding event for our oldest students.
EI and EII children should wear loose-fitting clothing and close-fitting footwear (such as sneakers) on Friday, June 4.
Summer Rendezvous
We have scheduled two get-togethers for this summer. Please note that we have had to change one of the dates. Here’s the skinny:
Saturday, July 7, 2010, 3:00 PM rendezvous for ice cream at Molly’s on the Riverfront
Sunday, August 22, Noon to 4:00 PM Pot Luck Picnic at Talley Day Park.
Please adjust your calendars to reflect the change from Saturday to Sunday, August 22 for the picnic – we don’t want anyone to miss out!
Last Day of School
The 2009 – 2010 school year draws to a close at noon on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. There is no childcare that day, and all children should be picked up by 12:00 PM.
Your Help is Needed
On Thursday, June 10th and Friday, June 11th, the teachers will be working in their classrooms packing up and storing away the myriad of Montessori materials and classroom supplies that were in use all year long. The teachers welcome your help. If you can volunteer time on either day, please contact Kanchalee Reeves, the Teachers Aides and Helpers chair, to volunteer. The more, the merrier!
Maintenance and Housekeeping Days
In order to help parents get hours in, we are adding a second Final maintenance and housekeeping day onto the calendar. We will meet here at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 12th and Sunday June 13th to take care of the school’s end-of-year housekeeping and maintenance needs. Remember, hours accountings must be submitted by June 15th.
Cape Henlopen Trip
Thank you to the parents who shopped, chaperoned, participated in an impromptu talent show, cooked, cleaned, helped the children, and generally made the elementary overnight trip to Cape Henlopen so much fun for the EWMS kids. And thanks to Nancy, Lisa, and Michelle who planned the trip in the first place.
