Green Tips
Throughout the year, fifth-grader, Quinn, has provided us with a green tip. She has been a student here since preschool and has internalized a love for the Earth and understanding of our need to take care of this planet in a way we hope all EWMS children will. Thanks, Quinn, for keeping us all cognizant of the importance of the little things that can add up to big differences.
The Time Has Come, the Walrus Said …
There are so many “lasts” that happen as a school year draws to a close. Elementary kids think about their last computer turn, chance to be teachers’ pet, and math problems of the year. Younger children give their teachers last hugs and read a book for the last time to the classroom volunteer.
Of course, the last day here is also the first day of “summer vacation,” with the concomitant excitement of days at camp, swimming, day-dreaming, exploring, seeing local sights, and enjoying play dates.
This has been a quick year and it seems impossible that it could be over already. We have seen children sprout up, learn to read, help others, and generally take control of their environment. These kids are ready to tackle what pops up for them this summer and beyond. We only wish we could be flies on the wall to watch them develop further. We count on their parents to keep us informed about these future successes, reached milestones, and great discoveries. We hope our returning families, too, will be in touch over the summer.
Thank You
EWMS has been fortunate to have had such in valuable help this year. Many thanks to committee chairs, Shuying Feng, Kate Frawley, Elizabeth Gehrt, Kanchalee Reeves, Dianne Soccio-Knapp, and Danika Swan. Parents who helped out in the office, Martha Brown, Elise Calbazana, Rupa Jha, Cathleen Peipher, Jessica Reed, and those of you who filled in in a pinch were indispensable. Thanks, too, to those parents who are also EWMS board members. All of the parents who came into the classrooms to listen to readers, manage projects, do talking computer, and generally lend a hand helped lighten the teachers’ load. And those who worked at home collecting library books, managing field trip drivers or Google Ad Words, organizing scholastic books, and stuffing envelopes, too, made things go more smoothly for us in the building. Parents cleaned and painted and weeded and changed light bulbs. Debbie McDowell and Dianne Soccio-Knapp helped the Green Garden Club blossom. The Shweiki family got the PTO up and running. It takes a village to raise a child and to nurture a child’s school. You were all such fabulous nurturers of your children’s school. Thank you for making the school year so successful.

Remember to join us for ice cream in July and/or at the picnic in August (see the calendar). The office will be “peopled” all summer long, so you can reach us if need be!
End of Year
Lots happens around here as we close up. By now you’ve been through your art bag and marveled at the wonderful work your children did in a variety of media this year. Elementary parents will have heard about the indoor field day. Many of you joined us for the picnic yesterday. The weather cooperated completely making it a double pleasure to be outside with friends for the morning, and with loved ones for lunch.
Music Program News
Mindy Bowman, who teaches music to all the kids, has submitted a last music news, which is attached here.
Your Help is (Still) Needed(!)
We do need your help in the classrooms tomorrow and Friday. If you can offer any
time to help the teachers, we’d all be thrilled.
Maintenance and Housekeeping Days are happening this weekend. We will meet here at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 12th and Sunday June 13th to take care of the school’s end-of-year housekeeping and maintenance needs. Remember, hours accountings must be submitted by June 15th.
