Green Tips from Quinn Whenever nobody’s in a
room, turn out the lights.
EWMS Café Join EWMS Staff and parents on the first Tuesday of every month at the EWMS Café for coffee and a baked treat. The first one of the school year will be held this coming Tuesday, October 6, 2009. The EWMS Café will be located in the conference room and opens at 7:30 a.m. Free AM care is available while parents are at the Café - so come early and still make it to work on time! (Help the planet and bring your own mug!)
Assembly Line
EWMS holds a whole-school assembly most Friday mornings at 11:00 AM. Last Friday, September 25th, the children viewed the pictures taken of each of them for the parents’ meeting. It is great fun for the kids to see themselves and each other on the screen, and is also a great lesson in decorum.
The teachers are excited to welcome Mythili Ganji into the assembly routine. Mythili will be coordinating assemblies this year. Please let her know of any ideas you might have, or of any talents, collections, or expertise you would like to share at an assembly.
Curriculum Nights Each fall, the teachers hold a “Curriculum Night” in an effort to give parents a glimpse of their children’s school day, an understanding of the Montessori Method, and a lesson or two with the materials your children use on a daily basis. You will not want to miss these meetings as they are designed to help you understand what your children do here at EWMS each day. The Early Childhood (EC1 and EC2) Curriculum Night will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 beginning at 7:00 PM. The EI curriculum night will take place on Thursday, October 22 at 7:00 PM.
Alumni Update Vanessa Delmerico is a senior studying Communications at the University of Delaware. She will spend winter session in Tel Aviv. Jessica Blunt is a freshman at Keystone College where she is studying Respiratory Therapy. Madeline Lauria graduated from Duquesne University in December 2008 having majored in English and journalism.
Amy Nerlinger has graduated from Boston College with a degree in psychology.
Kelly Patton graduated from Middlebury College in February and is now living in Des Moines, IA where she works for AmeriCorps Vista helping organize volunteers to aid Iraqi refugees making a home in a new country.
EC Field Trip
On Monday, September 28, the children in EC walked up to the Delaware History Museum on Market Street. There they had a lesson in the changes in daily life over the last 100 years, and were able to visit “Grandmom’s Attic” where they tried on period clothing and experienced the tools of daily life from the last century.
EI Ashland Overnight
The students in EI will be going to the Delaware Nature Society’s Ashland Nature Center on Thursday, October 8, 2009. They will spend a day and a half at Ashland, where they will have several nature classes, including hikes and learning about flora and fauna. Most excitingly, however, they will be spending the night in the lodge at Ashland. Thanks in advance to the parents who will drive the group out to and back from Ashland, and who will help chaperone the children while they are there!
In-service Day Care
On Monday, October 12, 2009, the teachers will have an in-service day. EWMS will provide childcare for families that need it from 7:30 AM until 5:00 PM, providing that we have a minimum of 6 children. Attached here is a sign-up form. It must be returned by Monday, October 5 with payment of $35.00.
