Did You Know …
The Knitting Club went to Greenbank Mill Farm yesterday for its Sheep to Shawl program. These knitters, ranging in age from six to twelve enjoyed seeing the fleecy sheep, the shorn fleece, carding and spinning. The group also learned about the care of sheep and some sheep biology (did you know they have four stomachs?). They had a picnic lunch outside to cap off a fabulous fall field trip. Thanks to all the parents for helping make the trip possible. Keep those needles clicking!
The Silent Journey and the Discovery
Last week’s parent education program was a huge success. Said one happy participant: “The whole
process of the experience on the student level was truly amazing beyond words. It has more than validated that this was one of the best decisions I've made.” We really appreciate so many of you
taking time out of your Friday afternoon and your weekend to learn more about your children’s schooling.
Thanks
Thank you very much to Elizabeth Gehrt, Jessica Reed, and Donna Thomas who helped out in the office this week.
Pennies for Peace
Each classroom now has a collection jar for Pennies for Peace, and children have been coming to school with one or two pennies or a pocketful each day. We are doing our part to help build schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan with your help!
Hours Opportunities
EWMS will host a table/booth at the Downtown Fall Fest on Market Street from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 1, 2008. We are looking for a few more hosts for the afternoon. If you could give an hour or two of your time, we would be grateful. Please contact Victoria to volunteer or for more information.
We are looking for someone or a small group to coordinate the Accreditation Team’s visit. This will include arranging transportation from the train station to the hotel (Doubletree in Wilmington) and to school while they are here, coordinating refreshments and meals (two Continental breakfasts and two lunches to be served at school), and assuring that their other needs are met. If you would like to volunteer for this job or would like further information, please contact Laura.

Assembly Line
Class 5 (EII) ran the assembly last week. In small groups or individually, the children wrote short plays then created scenery and made sock puppet characters. The rest of the school was entranced by the performances. The plays with their authors included: The Night Before Halloween (Gwyneth and Sophie), The Nugget Zone (Daniel),The Super Hero/Piece of Bacon (Eric), Boogle and the Chickens (Jameson), and The Evil Talking Potato vs. Carrot Man (Quinn).
Housekeeping Committee
Housekeeping Committee schedules were sent home today. If you did not receive your schedule, please contact the office. Thank you, Housekeeping Committee members! Yours is a very important role at EWMS, Jesse, Krista, Marvin, Matt, Rich, and Stacey.
