Green Tip from Quinn
Instead of using gift wrap, you could use old newspaper. It doesn't matter what the gift looks like on the outside. It matters what’s inside.
Green Garden Club Twenty-five EWMS children, parents, and staff went to Longwood Gardens on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, as part of the Green Garden Club. The weather was wonderfully cooperative, and folks were thrilled to see the beautiful flowers, lights, and fountains, and to hear former EWMS music teacher Margaret Love perform as part of the Brandywine Harp Orchestra. (Sadly many EWMSers missed hearing Margaret because the concert was so well attended!)
The Green Garden Club will start meetings up again on Thursday, January 7, 2010!
Pizza Thursdays
Attached here is a pizza form in case you have not ordered pizza for your child as yet, and would like to beginning in January. Please order for the remainder of the year if you choose to order; we cannot accommodate week to week or last-minute orders.
School Hours
Morning drop-off times are from 8:20 – 8:40 AM. Children dropped off by 8:40 AM are able to start their days in the classroom in a peaceful, organized and routine way. When children arrive later to school, they miss out on the opportunity to socialize briefly with their classmates, and often miss morning meetings during which they learn about their day, have a new lesson, and do some centering movement exercises. Please plan your mornings so that your children can start their day well here at school.

The Montessori sensorial materials are designed to help children hone their discriminatory skills. Through the use of all the senses, the child is able to categorize and appreciate her/his surroundings, and begin to make sense of them. Through isolation of one quality (color, shape, length, texture, etc.), children strengthen their senses, develop patterning skills and a sense of order, and discriminate differences as they work. Additionally, these materials lead into the geometry (shapes), math (base-ten and recognition of size differences), and language (sound discrimination) materials.
Friendly’s Night Out Thanks to you, we earned $172.20 through our Friendly’s fundraiser last week. We appreciate your coming out to the restaurant and telling others about the event!
Other Fundraising News
A+Bonus Bucks is still available. If you already have a Giant shopping card, please remember to link it to EWMS – we will earn a percentage of all your purchases at no cost to you – or, you may sign up to get a card here.
To date, the Annual Fund has raised $14,591 and the special Teachers’ Fund has brought in an additional $1,825. Thank you very much for supporting EWMS. As you know, every single donated dollar is helpful to this school. We are striving for 100% participation from our families in our fundraisers this year. If you were not eligible to donate your transportation reimbursement, did not choose to order Silpada, or a coupon book, couldn’t make it to Friendly’s, or do not work for a United Way organization, please consider making a donation to our Annual Fund campaign. A contribution in any amount will get us closer to both our fundraising goal and our 100%-participation-from-families goal. And every dollar given is a dollar we didn’t have before! Below is a list of donors to our Annual Fund so far.
