First Days
The
First Day of School is always an exciting one for children (and their
grown-ups!). Returning kids have been
looking forward to rekindling friendships, having new challenges, and seeing
what is different now that they are a year older. Children who are new to EWMS are getting used
to their beautiful new school. Parents,
remember to join us for coffee and a nosh tomorrow and/or Friday so we can
welcome you to the 2011 – 2012 academic year personally!
Many Thanks
Getting through the
summer and started up in August is made a lot easier with the help of our EWMS
families. We appreciate your caring for
our plants and pets, taking on laundry duties, mowing and weed-whacking,
hauling old documents out for shredding, hanging valances, weeding, working in
our classrooms, and staying in touch.
So, thanks to Autumn, Baden, Carrie, Christian, DeShawna,
Dianne, Evie, Hye-John,
Jason, Judy, Kati, Lou, Rich, Rochelle, and Sandeep
for your help in getting us to this point.
We wouldn’t want to do it without you!
Playground Additions
Thanks to a generous
grant from the Crystal Trust, EWMS was able to realize some playground
improvements
this summer. We now have a balance beam
in addition to a less cumbersome sandbox with an easy-to-use cover. The kids will be able to enjoy both if the
rain ever stops!
Needed
The Elementary classrooms and the art room are in
need of newspaper. We would welcome
newspaper (no fliers or circulars, please) until we holler, “Uncle!” Thanks in advance.
Pizza Thursday
Please remember to turn
in your pizza orders and checks by this Friday.
We are still in need of a “Pizza Maven” to keep track of pizza Thursdays
for us. If you’d like information about
this job, please contact McCrae.
Newsletters
Each Wednesday, the EWMS
weekly newsletter is published and posted to our website. A link to the newsletter will be sent out via
email. We encourage you to catch up on
EWMS happenings by reading the newsletter each week.
Fundraising

Box
Tops and Labels for Education Maven, Lisa Romish asks
that we, “Please bring in all of those Box Tops and Labels for Education you have
been faithfully saving over the summer. We need to send in the first
batch before November 1st. Get neighbors, family, and friends
to join in collecting these from the things they buy as well. This is an easy way to earn money for the
school."
Maintenance

This
Saturday is a Maintenance Day. We get
started at about 8:00 AM. If you’re

Photos
Patchwork Photography will be here on Tuesday,
September 13th to photograph the children. Order forms will be sent home via lunch box
mail, so please be on the look-out.
Children’s photographs will be taken individually and in their class
groups. You may also order sibling
groupings if you like. Patchwork
Photography invariably does a wonderful job.
While ordering is certainly not mandatory, orders must be placed by
Tuesday if you intend to purchase your child’s school photos.
School Picnic, September
14, 5:00 – 7:00 PM
Please plan to bring your whole family for this
get-to-know-you, back-to-school event.
This is an opportunity for you to meet the other children and parents in
your child’s class, put a face to your committee chairperson’s name, and share
some good food with your EWMS family.
Please bring:
A – F bring
a salad, fruit, or snack item
G – P bring
a casserole or side dish
R – Z bring
a dessert
EWMS will supply hotdogs (100% beef and vegetarian
varieties), rolls, condiments, beverages, and tablewares.
Philly
Soft Pretzels
Beginning next Wednesday, September 14, EWMS will
be selling Philly soft pretzels at the end of the school day. We’ll send a reminder out on Tuesday. If children (or their adults) would like
pretzels, they should bring in $.50 per pretzel in the morning on Wednesday.
